The Indian government, through Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, has outlined its strategic petroleum reserves and contingency plans in response to potential supply disruptions from the Iran-Israel conflict. The country maintains strategic stocks of 25 days of crude oil, 25 days of petroleum products (petrol, diesel, ATF), and 25-30 days of LPG. To enhance capacity, approval has been granted to build an additional 6.5 million tonnes of storage at Chandikhol in Odisha and Padur in Karnataka. The Petroleum Ministry has also established a 24x7 control room to monitor stock levels. These measures are aimed at insulating the domestic energy market from external geopolitical shocks.
