India Set For Semiconductor Boom With Four Plants Operational By End of 2026

Indian Defence News
March 3, 2026

India's Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that four semiconductor manufacturing plants are expected to be operational by the end of 2026, representing a major strategic push to bolster the country's hardware manufacturing capabilities. This initiative marks a significant step in India's ambition to become a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain. Micron's ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging) plant in Sanand, Gujarat, has already begun operations, establishing itself as India's first commercial semiconductor production facility. Concurrently, Tata Group's fabrication plant in Dholera is currently undergoing inspection, a critical phase in the project's development. These combined efforts signal a substantial expansion of India's domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity, which is poised to have a direct and positive impact on the broader IT hardware industry within the country.
