Russian company Baikal Electronics has signed a five-year contract to supply 1.5 million Baikal-U (BE-U1000) microcontrollers to Reglab, a manufacturer of equipment for automation systems. The first batch of 150,000 chips, valued at over 100 million rubles (approximately $1.29 million at an exchange rate of ~77.59 RUB/USD), will be shipped in the first half of 2026. The chips are based on domestic RISC-V cores, which is positioned as a step towards import substitution in the critical segment of industrial automation. The deal demonstrates the development of the domestic supply chain within the Russian IT sector, specifically in hardware, and indicates long-term planning under the pressure of sanctions.
